DINING CHAIR SHOPPING GUIDE

Looking to find the perfect dining chair to match your dining table? Choosing the right dining chairs for your space is never an easy task especially if you're prone to hosting dinner parties or family dinners every night. With such a vast array of options to choose from, we've compiled a list of some of the things we look out for when finding a dining chair so that you can make a more informed decision.

ARRANGEMENTS

Before we get started, lets talk about the three main types of dining chair arrangements and decide which one is best for your space.

All Matching Chairs

The most common arrangement of chairs is when you have two or more of the same style of chair around your dining table.

Host & Hostess Chairs

Opting for two different chairs at the head and end of the table. It is then surrounded with four side chairs placed between the two heads that go especiallt well with long rectangular tables

Mismatched Chairs

For more of an eclectic look, you can go for a group of mismatched dining chairs. Ideal for casual farm houses and bohemian styled dining rooms. For this arrangement, each chair must be unique but compliment each other. A safe way to do this arrangement is to buy six of the same style of chair in multiple colours.

Beyond these three arrangements, you can also use non-conventional seating options like benches, which are great for kids, depending on your needs.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR

Before investing in good dining chairs, you want to make sure to measure everything before buying. Make sure you leave enough arm space and leg space for every intended guest at your dining table. You should also allow for at least two feet of empty space behind each guest at your dining table while they are sitting.

The good rule of thumb is: 10 inches of leg space (space between the seat and the dining table), and 2 feet of table width space for each guest at your table.

Like most other pieces of furniture, dining chairs come in a variety of materials and finishes giving each a unique style and look. The most common materials used in the making of dining chairs are: wood, metal, rattan and plastic.
