Pantone 17-5105 (Ultimate Gray) and Pantone 13-0647 (Illuminating), the dynamic duo announced by the experts at Pantone to be the Colour of The Year 2021.
Pantone has only ever announced two colors once for the Colour of The Year, the other year being 2016 (to acknowledge gender fluidity).
In 2020, during the COVID 19 crisis we all spent the majority of our time indoors being safe at home. The two colours together is a testament to the ways we united with friends, neighbours and our close ones.
Pantone 13-0647 (Illuminating) was expressed by Pantone as “a bright and cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity, a warming yellow shade imbued with solar power.” On the other hand, PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray was described as “emblematic of solid and dependable elements which are everlasting and provide a firm foundation”
As we welcome 2021, the duo of shades Pantone 17-5105 (Ultimate Gray) and Pantone 13-0647 (Illuminating) chosen this year represents a sense of resilience and a desire that everything is going to get brighter.
“Pratical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope” - Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director Pantone
Seeing Pantone’s Annual Colour of the Year is always fascinating especially for those in the field of design and product development. The colours predicted by Pantone are extremely influential in industries such as fashion, industrial and graphic design, interiors and home furnishing.
